Advanced Barrel Racing Lab

Phoenix, AZ January 31 to February 2, 2003

What a place to be in the middle of winter, Phoenix AZ! We love going south, coming from cold Colorado. On the first weekend of February, thanks to the hard work of our Lab contacts, Crystal Logan and Stacy Anderson, we held our 3rd Advanced Barrel Racing Lab at the Western Saddle Club Arena in Phoenix. With beautiful 85 degree weather we taught the "science of speed" in barrel racing to 16 students.

3-D 1st Jackie Perry 19.393 2nd Terre Hackett 3rd Lila Pierce 20.451

Terry Hackett and her sharp looking horse, Skylar, were chosen as the Most Improved Student for this Lab. Terre improved her time from her first run by three seconds and learned faster is better. All weekend long Terre’s famous words were "When I grow up I want to be a barrel racer just like Mary Miller". Mary was not only a inspiration to Terre but also to the Crumrine Buckle winner, BJ Funston. That morning, after a very moving cowboy church service, BJ stated to me that if she was able to win the final jackpot she wanted the buckle to go to Mary Miller. She said that without Mary working with her and encouraging her to run barrels, she would not be competing along with her daughter, Ella Wilcox.
